Home MenuWinter Weather Concerns
Automated collection systems are implemented in communities worldwide, many having winter climates more severe than Janesville’s climate.
If you think the City may be plowing your street on your collection day, please do not place your collection carts in the curb line. Place the carts in your driveway opening or on the terrace, adjacent to the curb line.
Will you pick up my trash and recyclables during severe winter weather?
Collection is generally not disrupted due to winter weather, but delays occasionally occur. Complete cancellation of collection due to winter storms rarely occurs, but has happened. These situations are all dictated by the weather event. Cancellations and delays are communicated through local media outlets and on the City’s website.
Can the carts roll through the snow?
Yes they can, but there are limitations. You may have to clear a path to the curb. What if it’s snowing so hard and the snow is so deep I can’t roll the cart to the curbside?
The City makes every effort to collect all trash and recycling on your normal collection day. You will either have to clear a path to the curb or hold your materials until the next scheduled collection.Where do I place my cart if there is a snow bank?
If your cart will not fit in the driveway opening then you will have to shovel an opening in the snow bank where the cart can be placed.
If I normally place my carts on the grass next to my driveway, what should I do in the wintertime when it snows?
If your cart cannot be placed in the curb line or within your driveway opening, you will have to shovel a spot somewhere next to curb that is large enough for your cart to fit. Carts placed on snow banks cannot be collected.
The pictures below depict where to place your carts during winter months.
