The City is an Equal Opportunity Employer, therefore all applicants for employment positions with the City will be given equal consideration without regard to race, creed, religion, color, sex, national origin, handicap as defined in the Americans with Disability Act, ancestry, arrest or conviction record, marital status, membership in Military Reserve, sexual orientation, genetic testing, honesty testing, pregnancy or childbirth, use or nonuse of lawful products off the employer's premises during non-working hours, or age (except where such matters constitute a bona fide occupational qualification necessary for proper and efficient functioning in the job).

The City does not discriminate against a qualified person with a disability who is able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation that may be made regarding job application procedures, hiring, advancement, termination, compensation, job training, and other terms, conditions and privileges of employment.

Any applicant or employee who feels adversely affected in the opportunity for employment or advancement because of any unlawful discrimination shall have the right to appeal or complain the decision or action that the applicant or employee believes is unlawfully discriminatory.  Such appeal or complaint shall be in writing and filed with the Human Resources Director within 300 days of the alleged decisions or act. The Human Resources Director shall conduct, or cause to be conducted, an investigation into the appeal or complaint and render a decision regarding such appeal or complaint.

If a job applicant indicates they need an accommodation at any time during the recruitment process, such matter shall be discussed with the applicant to determine the nature and reasonableness of the requested accommodation. Technical sources and expertise may be consulted, and information and advice considered by the City concerning the requested accommodation. Such discussion with a job applicant and the information obtained shall be documented and maintained separately, such as with the applicant's medical files, if any.  The applicant shall be asked to sign the document acknowledging the discussion and the requested accommodation.
