The Finance Office provides financial information to all of the various City divisions and departments. This office is responsible for the overall fiscal activities of the City's operations which include financial reporting, accounts payable, payroll processing, and budget preparation. The Finance Office has been active in the process of acquiring grant compliant and long-term funding for City operating and capital improvement projects through the securing of promissory note and bond issues.

The City's tax levy comprises only one portion of a property owner's tax bill. The Janesville School District, Hedberg Public Library, Rock County, and Vocational School District are the remaining four local taxing jurisdictions.
