Home MenuHoliday Collection Information
Trash and recycling collection days may shift as a result of a holiday that falls on a Monday through Friday. A collection schedule for the current calendar year may be found on the Trash & Recycling Collection webpage.
Holiday Trash & Recycling Collection Schedule
The schedule for trash and recycling collection changes for the following holidays. If a holiday is not listed here, collection takes place on the normal weekly schedule.
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
If the actual (not observed) holiday falls anywhere Monday through Friday:
-
There will be no collection on the holiday.
-
If your regular collection day falls on or after the holiday, collection will be delayed by one day during that week.
-
For those whose collection day is normally Friday, this will mean collection is delayed to Saturday.
If the actual holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday:
-
There will be no changes to the regular collection schedule that week.
Christmas Trees, Wreaths, & Greenery
Christmas trees, wreaths, and greenery are not accepted at the compost site or demolition landfill. There are three options for disposal of these items:
-
A separate, special collection for Christmas trees occurs the week of January 8 - 12, 2024 on residents' regularly scheduled trash collection days.
-
Trees, wreaths, and greenery should be placed at the curb on your regular collection day during that week.
-
Trees and large wreaths should be cut into sections no longer than 4 feet, or they will not be collected.
-
Trees, wreaths, and greenery that are frozen into a snow bank and do not free easily will not be collected.
-
-
Christmas trees and large wreaths may also be cut into small sections that will fit completely into your trash collection cart.
-
Christmas trees, wreaths, and greenery may be taken to the public drop-off area at the sanitary landfill on Black Bridge Road during normal operating hours.
Other Holiday Waste Disposal
The holidays often bring extra waste! Please review the following tips to properly dispose of these items and to help reduce the waste heading into the sanitary landfill:-
Gift boxes can be recycled with other papers.
-
Tape, twine, or staples can remain on any boxes when recycling them.
-
Wrapping paper that is non-metallic can be recycled.
-
Reuse bows and ribbons, but do not recycle them.
