Eligibility for a Housing Choice Voucher is determined by the City of Janesville Rent Assistance office. It is based on the total annual income and family size and is limited to U.S. citizens and specified categories of non-citizens who have eligible immigration status. In general, the family's income may not exceed 50% of the county median income in which the family chooses to live. On this website, we have the current income limits by family size for City of Janesville, Wisconsin.

A criminal background review is also conducted on all adult household members applying for Rent Assistance. Contact the Housing Authority if you would like more detailed information as to what kind of offenses would make an applicant ineligible for participation in the Rent Assistance Program..

The first step is to complete an application to our wait list when the wait list is open. Once your name is pulled from the wait list, the Housing Authority will contact you by letter, collect information on family income, assets and family composition. The Housing Authority will verify this information with other local agencies, your employer, bank. etc., and will use this information to determine program eligibility and the amount of rental assistance payment.

Note: If we are unable to reach you by mail, your name is removed from the waiting list.
