The Housing Choice Voucher Program, commonly referred to as "Section 8," enables low income families in Janesville Wisconsin to rent safe housing that is affordable in the private market through finds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. What is the Process?
Names are selected from the wait list based on date of application and local preferences. Once selected, the following steps summarize the process to become a Housing Choice Voucher family.
- Apply in person when the wait list is open
- City of Janesville Housing Authority selects applicants from the wait list and schedules interview
- City of Janesville Housing Authority verifies information for eligibility
- Applicant attends an orientation and receives a voucher and a Request for Tenancy Approval form
- Applicant submits the Request for Tenancy Approval form completed by prospective landlord
- Await inspection results
- Await rent decision
- Sign the lease
- Move in, pay rent and utilities
- Comply with HUD and City of Janesville rules and regulations
