Speaker's Bureau
The City of Janesville staff would like to speak to your group on matters of interest to you as Janesville residents. City staff are happy to speak on any topic listed below. If you are interested in a topic not listed, please call and we will try to accommodate your group.
We can also arrange tours of our facilities, including fire stations, city parks, library, the wastewater treatment plant or the Police Services Building. Programs may be geared toward children or adults and to any time length you need.

General City Affairs & Community Issues
City Council: City Councilmembers are willing to speak to local organizations or classes to discuss a number of topics, including current and community-wide policy issues and the role of the City Council in city government.
Assessor's Office: Learn about the annual assessment process, why revaluations become necessary and how property values are determined.
City Attorney: Available subjects include traffic law, city ordinances, alcohol licensing, underage drinking & potential legal consequences, worthless check prosecutions and truancy.
City Manager: The City Manager appreciates the opportunity to speak to local groups about the state of the City, the City’s Strategic Plan, or an overview of the services that the City of Janesville provides.
Clerk-Treasurer's Office: Learn about the election process and how to vote.
Economic Development: Learn about area economic trends, marketing strategies, development and redevelopment programs and incentives, and projects that are coming to Janesville.
Finance: Hear presentations regarding the City's budget & fiscal health and how utility rates are determined.
Neighborhood & Community Services
Housing: Available topics include home ownership, housing rehabilitation, fair housing, nuisance ordinance violations, the rent assistance program and neighborhood stabilization efforts.
Janesville Transit System: Hear a presentation about Janesville's transit history and how JTS services are planned, operated and funded. Garage tours and specialized "how to ride" training are also available.
Recreation: Topics consist of benefits of recreation programs, volunteer and sponsorship opportunities, the Janesville Ice Arena and the lifetime sport of ice skating and programs and services available at the Janesville Senior Center.
Public Safety
Fire: Available subjects include general fire operations, the paramedic program and fire safety & prevention. Tours of the central fire station are available and may be arranged through the fire department business office at (608) 755-3050.
Police: Various law enforcement topics and presentations are available. Tours of the Police Services Building are also available.Public Works & Utilities
Engineering: Available topics include state highway & local road projects, traffic control issues, special assessment process for streets, sidewalks & utilities, stormwater management and contract administration.
Operations: Learn about snow plowing, leaf collection, street maintenance operations, tree trimming, weed cutting, recycling, landfilling and composting of waste.
Water & Wastewater Utilities: Available topics include drinking water quality, treatment of water & wastewater and regulatory issues. Tours of the treatment plant are also available.
Parks: General overview of parks, trails, and greenbelts.
Golf Courses: General overview of Janesville's two public courses.
Building & Planning Services: Understand the land development process including current and historical perspectives on city growth, annexation, subdivisions, site planning, zoning, transportation and bike trails, as well as residential and commercial building code information.
Hedberg Public Library
The library’s expert staff is available for presentations on a variety of topics including genealogy, online resources, business resources, new technology and book suggestions for kids, teens and adults.
