The Janesville Wastewater Treatment Plant has 15.5 employees including a superintendent, administrative assistant, chief operator, eight plant operators, four sewer maintenance staff, two chemist/biologists, and a .5 plumbing technician associate shared with the Water Utility. All operators are certified by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and maintain their certification through continuing education. Education also extends to the public. Plant staff provides tours of the treatment processes and laboratory procedures to students and professional organizations. Plant tours are available and information can be received by calling 608-755-3120. The plant is primarily staffed during one shift per day, seven days per week. Computers monitoring plant operation during non-staffed times automatically call an operator if needed.
Dave Botts, P.E. Utility Director
This is a managerial position that plans, directs and administers all programs and activities of the Water and Wastewater Departments.
Joseph Zakovec, Wastewater Superintendent
This is a managerial position responsible for supervisory and administrative activities at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. This position is responsible for planning, maintaining operational capacity, supervision of plant operation and maintenance, and oversight of laboratory.
Scot Truesdill, Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
This is a managerial position that includes Bio-Solids Management and the supervision of operational and maintenance responsibilities. Included in this position is the training of both plant operations and safety.
Chemist/Biologist Staff
These positions are responsible for performing both chemical and biological analyses on wastewater and water samples. Each chemist/biologist must be capable of performing chemical analyses using delicate instrumentation such as the atomic absorption spectrophotometer.
Plumbing Technician Associate
This position is responsible for providing administrative, operational and technical assistance within the Wastewater and Water Utilities. Wastewater Utility activities include: assisting Wastewater laboratory staff with collecting and analyzing samples, and reporting data and other lab functions. Completes cross connection and grease trap inspections for Water Utility.
Operator III
This position function in all areas of plant maintenance, operation, custodial duties and laboratory assistance. They also oversee work projects as needed.
Operator II
This position assists in the operation of all aspects of wastewater treatment. This person should possess good driving, mechanical and laboratory skills. This individual will assist in the incorporation and disposal of bio-solids.
Operator I
This position assists in the operation of all aspects of wastewater treatment. This person should possess good driving, mechanical and laboratory skills. This individual will assist in the incorporation and disposal of bio-solids.
Operator Trainee,
This position assists in the operation and maintenance of the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant. This position shall obtain a CDL for operating semi-tractor trailers and assist in the disposal of bio-solids. This individual shall work aggressively at obtaining DNR Certifications associated with the Janesville Wastewater Treatment Plant.
