The City of Janesville’s Development Assistance Group (DAG) schedules a weekly meeting, which includes staff from City offices who are actively involved in the development review process. The intent of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for developers and project designers to share conceptual development plans and ideas, receive feedback from City staff, ask questions of staff, and discuss the development review process. This meeting is not a substitute for a pre-application meeting with City staff.

When the DAG meets: Every week on Wednesday at 2 p.m. One 30-minute review session is scheduled each week.

Where the meetings occur: In-person at City Hall (3rd Floor Conference Room) or via Microsoft Teams depending on the applicant’s preference.

Materials required for the meeting: The applicant must provide a preliminary site plan and a brief project narrative that can be shared with participating City staff members. The site plan should depict basic information such as property lines, adjacent streets, building footprints, driveways, parking areas, and any other site features/improvements envisioned for the project. The project narrative should reference the project location, current zoning designation, and any other pertinent project information.

Who it is designed for: Project developers, architects, engineers, and other interested parties who are looking for feedback related to site development in the City of Janesville.

Which City representatives participate in the meeting: City staff from Engineering, Planning, Building, and Fire Department.

Meeting format: The 30-minute session can be used however the applicant desires, depending on the feedback being sought. Typically, the applicant provides a brief overview of the project and then Staff offers comment on the proposal. Having more detail generally allows Staff to provide more specific feedback.

How to get on an upcoming agenda: The weekly DAG meeting is available on a first come, first served basis. To reserve a weekly appointment, email both Senior Planner Brian Schweigl (schweiglb@janesvillewi.gov) and Planning Director Duane Cherek (cherekd@janesvillewi.gov) with the requested date, site plan and narrative.

Staff will confirm the availability of the desired meeting date or specify the next available meeting date. To secure placement on a particular agenda, the following items must be emailed to Staff no later than noon on the Wednesday before the requested meeting date:

  1. A PDF of a preliminary site plan (Additional materials are encouraged if more detailed feedback is desired by the applicant).
  2. A brief narrative of the development proposal (two or three sentence description).

Meeting Confirmation: City staff will respond via email to confirm placement on the next available agenda, including meeting format preference.
