Ruger Avenue, from Randall Avenue to Lexington Drive

Project Description

The City of Janesville, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), is in the process of developing plans for the reconstruction of Ruger Avenue, between South Randall Avenue and South Lexington Drive in the City of Janesville. The Ruger Avenue reconstruction project is STP-Urban project administered by WisDOT which combines federal and local funds in a cost share.

Proposed improvements to the corridor include:

  • Reconstruction of the pavement structure including curb and gutter
  • Marked bicycle lanes
  • Curb ramp replacement
  • Spot replacement of sidewalk, storm sewer, water main, and sanitary sewer

Existing sidewalk will be evaluated for replacement in the coming months. Spot replacements are anticipated and will be special assessed to the adjacent property owner per Council policy 95.

The project will closely match the existing horizontal and vertical alignments. Right of way acquisitions and temporary limited easements for curb ramp improvements and grading are anticipated.

Parking will be removed from one side of the street within the project limits. The City and the design team have been evaluating parking needs on the corridor. Based on the analysis, the south side of the street has the capacity for 62 vehicles, while the north has the capacity to accommodate 50 vehicles. A portion of Craig High School’s athletic fields is also positioned along the south side of the corridor, which at times generates parking needs. Because of these two factors, the design team recommends removing parking from the north side of the street and allowing parking on the south side. The City is looking for feedback from residents regarding this recommendation. Feedback should be submitted by February 16, 2024.
