The Janesville Police Department may charge the actual, necessary, and direct cost of locating, reproducing, and mailing or shipping of a record.

• Locate Fees:
  • Location fees are calculated based on the salary of the lowest paid staff member capable of completing the task.
  • Location fees may be charged if the total cost exceeds $50.00
• Pre-Payment:
  • The Janesville Police Department will require a pre-payment of fees if the total cost exceeds $5.00.

As of January 1, 2025, the Janesville Police Department will no longer process requests for Crash Reports (DT4000) as the Department of Transportation is the record custodian for these reports. 

• Crash Reports completed by the Janesville Police Department will be available from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
• Crash Reports are generally completed within seven to ten days, but may take up to 10-15 business days.
