The City of Janesville Article XXI restricts the use of skateboards within the city limits. The ordinances uphold the Wisconsin ban on riding skateboards on public streets and roads. For questions concerning the ordinance, call the Police Department at (608) 755-3100.

Skateboarding is not allowed in the following areas:

  • Public streets and roads.
  • All public property and structures, including City owned parking lots.
  • Private property, unless permission is given.
  • Certain downtown areas, as depicted in the map.

Skateboards can be used on sidewalks that are outside of the downtown area. Skateboarders who use the bike trails are expected to share them courteously with pedestrians and cyclists. Skateboarders are expected to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians on permitted sidewalks and the bike trails.
