The City of Janesville Assessor’s Office anticipates mailing 2017 Assessment Change Notices on or about Friday, May 12. Property owners should allow 4-6 days for notices to arrive. Assessment information can also be viewed by clicking here.
State law requires that notices be mailed to property owners when there is a change in their assessed value from the prior year. The Assessor’s Office anticipates that approximately 7% of the City’s 24,000 real estate parcels will change value for the January 1, 2017 assessments. All Personal Property accounts will be mailed a notice as those values change every year.
The Change Notice includes information on the assessment and the dates and times of the Assessor’s Open Book sessions and Board of Review hearings. Although not all property owners will receive a change notice, all property owners may meet with assessment staff to discuss their assessment during Open Book or appeal their assessment to the Board of Review. Participation in either process requires an appointment. Open Book appointments run May 23 through May 30, 2017. The Open Book session signifies the conclusion of the current year’s assessment cycle. However, anyone may contact the Assessor’s Office at any point during the year if they have questions or concerns regarding the assessment process.
For questions or to schedule an Open Book appointment, please contact the Assessor’s Office at 608-755-3045.
