This WSI blended learning class combines in-water training and online content to train lifeguards wishing to also be swim lesson instructors. This course is dedicated to developing the skills and knowledge lifeguards and lifeguard aids will need to plan and teach courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program. This is an intensive course. Participants should do online coursework in advance on their own time.
Participants must be at least 16 years old by the last day of the course (April 27, 2016) and be able to demonstrate the following skills at the pre-course session on Monday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Edison Middle School Pool:
- Swim the following strokes consistent with American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim Level 4 stroke performance criteria: 25 yards each of Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Breaststroke, Elementary Back Stroke and Sidestroke; along with 15 yards of the Butterfly;
- Floating or sculling for 1 minute on back in deep water; and
- Tread water for one minute.
All participants are required to attend the pre-course session on April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Edison Middle School Pool. Please bring proof of age to this pre-course session (driver’s license or birth certificate).
Participants must attend all classes in order to successfully complete the course. Classes will be held: April 6, 7, 11, 13, 14, 18, 20, 21, 25 & 27. Class is held from 6:15-8:45 p.m. at the Edison Middle School pool. The course fee is $150/person. Please pre-register online or at the Recreation Division office.
