The Senior Center is set to host Steve Benton and his original Thomas Edison Amberola wind-up phonograph on Wednesday, January 13 from 9-10am in the Riverview Room. The program will feature a breakfast of quiche, fruit, muffins and a beverage.
During the program, Steve Benton will give a brief history of Thomas Edison's phonograph invention and will explain how recordings were made to play on the phonograph. Benton will be featuring samples of records from the early 1900’s, including a popular song from 1915: "The Little Old Ford Rambled Right Along” by Billy Murray.
Participants will be amazed at how clear the records still sound considering their history through time. Benton will also showcase corroborating pictures and information on the items and persons he'll be talking about throughout the program. Come, sit back and enjoy the sweet sounds from the Amberola phonograph!
The cost for this program will be $5/member and $7/guest. Please register and pay by Friday, January 8. For questions or to register, please call Senior Center Supervisor Janet McLean at 755-3040.
This activity at the Senior Center is open to individuals ages 50 and older.
