The City of Janesville and Seneca Foods will host a dedication ceremony for the new Conde Street Pretreatment Facility at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 25 at 501 E. Conde Street. This ceremony will mark the completion of a major building project resulting from a public-private partnership between the City and Seneca Foods.
The new Conde Street Pretreatment Facility will allow the City to treat waste flow from Seneca, reducing the strength of the waste and resulting in lower wastewater discharge costs to Seneca. The treated waste will produce methane which will be sold back to Seneca at market rates to cover the cost of the project. This partnership is allowing Seneca, one of the largest food-processing and canning companies in the country, to expand their vegetable packaging operation in Janesville. The project cost approximately $3.5 million and will have a 12 year payback period to the City. Construction of the facility began in 2013.
