The rehabilitation of North & South Main St. from St. Lawrence Ave. to Centerway is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 26. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will be administering the $2.94 million project, which includes a local (City) cost share of approximately 20% of roadwork items and 100% of new water main-related items. Recent work on this section of roadway was private utility-related and was planned to precede the WisDOT project.
The roadway will be CLOSED TO THRU TRAFFIC in two separate phases, beginning with the northern segment between Milwaukee and Centerway. Once work is complete on the northern segment (anticipated the end of July), that segment will reopen to traffic and the section between St. Lawrence and Milwaukee will be closed for construction activities. Local access to business driveways as well as pedestrian access will be maintained within the closed sections. Signed detour routes around the closures will be provided.
The project will include work on the following items; water main replacement, asphalt surface removal, storm sewer, intermittent curb and gutter, sidewalk/terrace area replacement, traffic signal & street lighting, new asphalt surfacing, landscaping and other miscellaneous finishing work. Main Street Construction Work Impacts JTS Bus Routes
JTS bus routes will experience a few detours in consideration of the construction activities planned to begin Tuesday, May 26 on Main Street between Centerway and Milwaukee Street.
The West Court Street route, Beloit-Janesville Express County Loop and Nightside West route will be detoured and not able to stop along Main Street. Individuals, including Garden Court Apartment residents, wishing to board or exit using the West Court Street or BJE County Loop may do so one block east along Parker Drive. The Nightside West route will follow Jackson Street inbound to Court Street to the Transfer Center. For questions, contact JTS at 755-3150.
