Are you a landlord interested in learning about crime prevention through environmental design? On April 29, JPD Officer Chad Sullivan will present environmentally focused concepts to reduce and prevent crime. Crime prevention by environmental design is a concept that reduces the likelihood of criminal activity occurring at a residence or building. The way buildings are designed, including lighting, landscaping, window placement, and access areas to the building are all important for crime prevention. Officer Sullivan will discuss how to remedy examples of buildings with problematic environmental crime issues. New communication tools will be introduced by Officer Sullivan that will drastically increase the ability of a landlord to monitor crime in the area of their rental units. All are welcome to attend this free training session, but it is specifically tailored to assist landlords. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 29 at 4:00 p.m. at Janesville City Hall, room 416. Please contact the Neighborhood & Community Services Department for more information at 755-3065.
