On April 24, the City of Janesville and the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater are partnering to host Make A Difference Day (MADD). City staff and volunteers will work with 200-250 students from UW-Whitewater on four projects throughout the city, including:
• Bike trail clean-up from Rockport Road to I-39/90;
• Downtown projects in conjunction with the Downtown Development Alliance including: clean-up of sidewalks, parking lots and the parking garage; clean-up and landscaping at the JTS Transfer Center; washing windows of businesses on Main and Milwaukee Streets; planting 12 trees at Upper Courthouse Park; and installing four Little Free Libraries;
• Landscaping and clean-up at Fourth Ward Park, Washington Park, and 389 Rockport Road (two rental units being rehabbed by the Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development); and
• Janesville Ice Arena grounds maintenance and landscaping.
The event will allow students to get involved and give back to their community and assist staff in tackling special maintenance and improvement projects. Following the work time, a celebration picnic for those involved will take place. The City of Janesville would like to thank all of the volunteers and the following sponsors for their assistance in making this event possible with their sponsorships:
• Daniel’s Sentry - East
• St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital
• Mercy Health System
• Woodman’s Market
