For the eleventh year, the City of Janesville has officially been designated a Tree City USA community. This designation is a significant achievement and demonstrates the City’s commitment to effective urban forest management. To receive this award, a city must annually meet criteria established by the Arbor Day Foundation, including having a tree board and a tree-care ordinance. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
There will be a short ceremony to celebrate Arbor Day on April 24 at 4:00 p.m. at the Marvin W. Roth Pavilion in Lower Courthouse Park. The Janesville Shade Tree Advisory Committee (JSTAC) will provide the City with a few trees to be planted and the Tree City USA award will be given to the City. The City of Janesville would like to thank JSTAC volunteers and community residents for their support and promotion of Janesville’s urban forest. Please contact Parks Director Cullen Slapak with any questions at 755-3025.
