Start Smart is a six-week instructional program that helps parents work one-on-one with their children, ages 4 – 6, while teaching them the basics of basketball: dribbling, ball handling, passing, catching, shooting and running. The program helps prepare children for organized youth sports by using safe, fun, and age appropriate equipment to teach them the basic motor skills needed to play basketball without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Both parents and children dress in attire ready to play! This program is held on Thursdays from January 15 – February 19 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Van Buren Elementary School Gym on January 15, 22 and 29 and at Lincoln Elementary School Gym on February 5, 12 and 19. The registration fee is $37. Please pre-register by January 12. Please contact the Recreation Division at 755-3030 with questions.
