On June 20 at 7:30 a.m., the Friends of Oak Hill Chapel will begin the first phase of restoration to the Oak Hill Chapel. The group will begin removal of the porch on the east side of the chapel. The porch is deteriorating and unsafe and needs to be removed. Once this removal is completed, the group will continue with phase one of restoration work which includes roofing work, masonry work, rebuilding the steps to the basement, and building a ramp for handicap access.
The Friends of Oak Hill Chapel are also launching a community-wide art contest. Local individuals are encouraged to submit designs that will fit in a 48 inch diameter window that is missing from the chapel. Designs must be consistent with the symbolization of the Knights of Pythias. A judging committee will be formed by the Friends group to select the winning design, which will then be crafted into a 16 square foot stained glass window by Friends Co-President Richard Snyder. The Friends of Oak Hill Chapel are excited to see the creative design skills of the Janesville community!
