It has been five years since the project began to save Oak Hill Chapel. Through a combination of community volunteerism and public and private partnership, the City of Janesville and the Friends of Oak Hill Chapel have seen the complete renovation of the historic building. The Chapel, which went unused for decades, was nearly destroyed in 2013. Now it is being referred to as “The Jewel of Oak Hill Cemetery”.
To commemorate its completed renovation, there will be a celebratory Open House at Oak Hill Chapel, 1725 N. Washington Street, on June 2, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a ceremony at 10:30 a.m., picnic beginning at 11 a.m., and tours all day provided by Oak Hill volunteers. This is an exciting event for Janesville and shows the importance of community support, activism, and partnership. All are welcome to celebrate Oak Hill Chapel.
