Overview
The Operations Division is responsible for re-applying traffic marking paint to public streets within the City of Janesville. Paint is applied with retroreflective glass beads that enhance the visibility of the markings. Most traffic paint requires annual maintenance.
- Crews apply paint for crosswalks, stop bars, turn arrows, and other pavement markings with a with a walk behind line striper.
- Travel lane marking, or striping, is performed with a self-propelled paint machine.
- Painting crews also re-apply paint to public parking lots to mark parking spaces on a bi-annual basis or as touch ups are necessary.
Although traffic marking paint dries relatively quickly (within a few minutes of application), we request that you avoid driving through fresh paint to avoid tracking paint on the roadway and getting paint on your vehicle. Painting crews have signs posted on their vehicles to warn of wet paint, and fresh paint at intersections is blocked off by cones.
